Welcome to HealthCare Chaplaincy's library. Our permanent collection is located in The Chaplaincy's Pastoral Care, Education and Research Center at 307 East 60th Street in New York City. The library was established in 1998 and has quickly become one of the few extensive compilations on the science and art of professional chaplaincy in the country. The collected works serve as a unique, finely focused library on pastoral care and chaplaincy, a hybrid discipline including areas once thought to be the sole province of psychology, social work, nursing, and counseling.
The library currently possesses over 3,500 books, journal titles, and audiovisual items, as well as an increasing number of electronic resources. The collection continues to grow with the spirit and mission of HealthCare Chaplaincy, including material on related subjects such as psychology, bioethics, social work, counseling, and adult learning. Established to serve the staff and students of HCC, the library works with The Chaplaincy's research department to acquire, organize, and disseminate the past and future content of pastoral care. References services are available in-person, or by phone or email.
Our new online public-access catalog is a big first step in providing enhanced remote-access research services and support to our students and staff, while making the public aware of our unique collection. To search our catalog, click on the links at the left or bottom of the page. Tips and suggestions for searching are available here.
The library is open Monday through Friday to chaplains and currently registered students, and to the public via appointment; please call 212-644-1111 x 235 or email the librarian.
