THE MARIA AND WILLIAM G. SPEARS RESEARCH INSTITUTE

The Maria and William G. Spears Research Institute is a national leader in conducting original research that draws on theories from many disciplines to explore the relationship between religion and spirituality and physical and mental well-being.

The Joan Bogardus Spears Library has one of the nation’s most comprehensive collections of books, periodicals, audio and video recordings, and other materials in the field of pastoral care and its correlate disciplines that include:

• Integrative care
• Death and dying
• Spirituality
• Theology
• Psychology
• Hospice and palliative care
• Trauma
• Biomedical ethics

The library is fittingly named for trustee William G. Spears’ beloved wife Joan [deceased], of whom he remarked, “The library will always mirror Joan’s love, indomitable spirit, and strong commitment to providing quality spiritual care for people of all faith traditions.”

Located at 307 East 60th Street, the Joan Bogardus Spears Library is open Monday through Friday to chaplains and students of HealthCare Chaplaincy. The general public is invited to make an appointment with the librarian. Please call 212-644-1111, x 235.
