BRIDGE
TO COMMUNITY CLERGY
2000 Wholeness of Life award recipient Dr. Glen Milstein
has long been an advocate of the role of clergy in the
early detection, referral, and treatment of mental illness.
A psychology fellow in psychiatry at the Westchester Division
of the New York-Presbyterian Hospitals, our partner institution,
his research and clinical focus has led to the development
of a therapeutic model that utilizes the strengths and
skills of chaplains to build a bridge that connects the
hospitals resources and treatment team to local
clergy and their congregations. "Our goal was to
create an intervention, from a mental health perspective,"
Dr. Milstein said, "where clergy become part of the
continuity of a patients care." |
