Dr. Montonye completed his Doctor of Ministry degree at Hartford Seminary, his Master of Divinity and Master of Sacred Theology degrees at Yale Divinity School, his Master of Science in Education at Southern Connecticut State University, and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of California, San Diego. Martin was ordained in 1987 in the United Church of Christ and served as pastor in three parishes. Martin was certified in 1998 by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education as an ACPE Supervisor. He has trained and conducted CPE programs at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven, Hartford Hospital, and the Connecticut Hospice in Branford, CT. In 2003, Martin established an ACPE program at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA, while serving as Manager of the Spiritual Services Department. Martin has written articles on spiritual assessment tools and ministry in palliative care settings. He is currently a member of the ACPE National Certification Commission and a Board Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains.
