HEALTHCARE CHAPLAINCY
Vice President Clinical Practice and Academic Affairs
The position has responsibility for the following functions
Clinical
- Develop strategic initiatives for the clinical practice and clinical education to maximize the opportunities for HCC chaplains in a range of health care settings
- Work with hospital leadership and clinical directors to develop continuous quality improvement programs that will demonstrate the value of professional chaplaincy services
- Develop new partner relationships, especially in appropriate new sectors such as medical homes, long term care, and home care/hospice programs
- Serve as one of HCC’s key national spokespersons on chaplaincy issues by participating in national forums on health care and chaplaincy to increase awareness of chaplaincy roles and relation to health care outcomes
- Monitor and ensure use of best practices in chaplaincy care and education in partner institution sites and educational satellite sites
- Ensure data collection, analysis and reporting of clinical practice and educational data and related reports from clinical and educational staff
- Coordinate with partner institutions on selection of Wholeness of Life award recipients (annually) and with the presentation events
Educational
- Ensure the quality and accreditation of HCC programs and the certification of all faculty that meet all ACPE standards
- Develop strategies to increase the number, quality and support of Supervisory Education Students and CPE Students
- Develop opportunities for educating a more diverse group of chaplains (i.e., “new” populations)
- Oversee the development and delivery of continuing education program for chaplaincy staff and of webinars for chaplains and other healthcare professionals
- Collaborate with Sr. Vice President for Research and Education who will oversee HCC’s research initiatives and professional educational programming for non-chaplaincy health care colleagues (e.g., physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, medical students). In coordination with Sr. Vice President, proposes descriptive and experimental research studies that will further demonstrate need for and effectiveness of chaplaincy care.
- Ensure educational data and related reports are prepared and received from educational staff in a timely manner
- Oversee HCC educational publications, i.e., PlainViews
- Manage the preparation and maintenance of all CPE students records
Administrative
- Schedule and attend regular meetings with staff and institutional partners
- Manage contracted chaplaincy care programs and services to support the strategic priorities of HCC and its partner institutions, currently fourteen NY area hospitals of which seven have educational (CPE) programs as well
- Develop and manage annual budgets (clinical and educational); negotiate contractual agreements with partner institutions; work with HCC’s finance department re: financial management of billings and receivables
- Effectively manage the implementation of all policies and procedures, which includes the timely evaluation of all clinical staff of the chaplaincy staff and their directors
- Manage the recruitment of professional and support staff with HCC’s HR Director in the clinical practice and education areas
Requirements:
Graduate degree: preferably, Ph.D., Ed.D, D.Min., D.N.Sc., Masters in Public or Health Administration
Board Certified Chaplaincy status, preferred but not required
At least 5 years successful experience in managing comparable clinical and/or educational programs
Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisory certification desired, but not required
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
Effective commitment to collaboration and team building
Proven effectiveness in managing client relationships
National recognition in chaplaincy and chaplaincy education circles desired, but not required
Supervisory Relationships:
Reports to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and directly supervises the Directors of Pastoral Care, Director of Support Services, Director of Continuing and Professional Education, Director Clinical Pastoral Education and Administrative Assistant.
