 The Rev. Dr. Walter J. Smith, S.J., has served as president and CEO of HealthCare Chaplaincy since September 1993, after serving as its executive vice president since July 1991. Father Smith joined the Chaplaincy's senior management team after a distinguished academic career, which included university and professional school teaching and administration. As a clinician, Father Smith specialized in end-of-life care. He has published numerous articles and two books in this field. He serves as a trustee of several national nonprofit health care and advocacy organizations and institutions of higher learning.
