The North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System strives to improve the health of the communities it serves and is committed to providing the highest quality clinical care; educating the current and future generations of health care professionals; searching for new advances in medicine through the conduct of bio-medical research; promoting health education; and caring for the entire community regardless of the ability to pay.
North Shore University Hospital/Manhasset is one of the clinical hubs of the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System and an academic medical center campus for New York University School of Medicine. In March of 2002 North Shore was named the Number One Hospital in America by an independent study reported in AARP Modern Maturity Magazine. The hospital has 731 beds and 61 bassinets and maintains a steady occupancy rate close to 100%. It offers the most advanced care in all medical disciplines, including open-heart surgery for both adults and children. Its Cardiology Center is a national demonstration site for advanced equipment and procedures. The hospital also excels in intensive care for medical, surgical, newborn and pediatric patients. The Don Monti Cancer Center has a full-service bone marrow transplant unit. There is a 30-bed designated unit for HIV/AIDS care and the institution is a designated Level 1 Trauma Center.

The Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center is the largest healthcare provider for children in the state of New York. In addition to its local patients, more than 2,500 children were transferred to CCMC last year from more than 100 other hospitals and health care facilities from across Long Island, the five boroughs of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The main campus, located in New Hyde Park, is one of several “front doors” to access world-class clinical care. The Medical Center is designing an additional inpatient unit in Manhattan at its recently acquired Lenox Hill Hospital which will offer even greater and more immediate access to children in Manhattan who need its care. Cohen Children’s Medical Center at Lenox Hill will open in mid-2012.
